Native to the Gorpuren Archipelago, the Gilasi people are made up of numerous tribes that occupy all of the islands in the archipelago. Despite their appearance, vegetation, and soil, all of the islands are floating parts of the shattered body of the titan Gorpuren.
Immense beyond imagination, their flesh is absurdly nutritious and abundant, making it the ideal material for plants and animals to grow and live on. Over time, rocks and earth began to cover the flesh, giving the archipelago the appearance of ordinary islands.
Having been brought from the mainland by the hero Gilasus, the Gilasi established their capital, Ena Gilasia, on a central island in the archipelago. There, all 100 of the hero’s blessings are locked away, awaiting someone worthy of possessing them all. Only one was left out of the vault: Drakynea, Kion’s sword. The sword was prophesied to be wielded by a great savior who would fight the evil of the continent that would reach the archipelago, who would become the Vortlar Kalari, the “Light of the Continent.” This turned out to be Otes Abiak.
The Gilasi began to believe in the arrival of the Vortlar Kalari when their archipelago began to be invaded by the forces of the continent, mostly the forces of Maliris. When Gilasus came with his people to the continent, he brought countless Luziges plants. Plants made of valuable metals and that bear fruits of precious stones. Like any plant, they can be cultivated and multiplied. In this archipelago, they literally cultivate wealth.
Although these plants have no value as wealth to the natives, those on the continent see them as endless sources of treasure. As soon as he was able to sail and discover the riches of the archipelago, Maliris began to invade and even settle on the islands. He exploited and stole the wealth of the Gilasi with violence and pure oppression. Naturally, the Dranis of Maliris and the Gilasi became natural enemies, and the archipelago became a veritable battlefield.
The relationship between the Gilasi and Otes is quite intimate. After being shipwrecked while fleeing from the dragon Gralgor, Otes arrived unconscious on the beach. In his arms, he held the dragon egg with all his strength, the last thing his father had left him. Otes did not lose it even though he was unconscious and was being tossed around by the sea until the waves calmed down and reached the sand. While he was waiting for him to wake up, the egg hatched, thus giving birth to the white dragon that would be Otes’ brother. The baby dragon protected Otes’ body while he remained unconscious from several small carnivores that wanted to snack on the boy.
Finally, both the dragon and Otes were found by a Gilasi tribe and were assimilated into their culture. The boy was 8 years old at the time, and for another decade, he lived, trained and fought alongside the Gilasi, under the tutelage of the tribe’s leader, Lal, who was like a father to Otes and Beud, until the time came when he would remove the sword from the stone and set off back to the mainland to slay the dragon Gralgor.
“You know I don’t believe in this savior thing, Lal.”
“I don’t care what you believe. I BELIEVE! You are so much more than you think you are, or want to be.”
—Lal to Otes, when he doubted her belief.
Over the years, both Otes and Beud received their names from the Gilasi culture. Otes was not a nobleman on the mainland, so he had no surname. The “Abiak” from the legendary “Otes Abiak” was added to him by the Gilasi.
Common name — the name by which everyone knows them.
- Otes — Orlat. Literally means “shipwrecked” or “brought from the sea.”
- Beud — Beud. Since he was born in the archipelago, he ended up with the name that the people first gave him. Beud means “white lizard,” because he and Otes washed up on a white sand beach, and Beud is the name given to small white-skinned lizards that live on that beach. It was from these animals that Beud protected Otes while he was unconscious.
Name Lasiti — a warrior’s name. It is chosen by the person himself.
- Otes — Abiak. Means “Dragonblood.” He achieved this after becoming a Lasiti, a gilasi warrior, and receiving Beud’s blood to heal his wounds.
- Beud — Slar’vrar. “Monster of the white sand”. Because Beud is a white dragon, he was able to camouflage himself very well by covering himself with sand of the same color. Through this, he was able to successfully carry out countless brutal ambushes.
Organization
Plarks
Plarks are the tribes present on all the islands throughout the great archipelago. Each one had its own culture and fighting style, which could be based on the unique characteristics of its own island.
Plark Traili
Native to the island of Vrartlak, one of the outermost islands of the archipelago, the members of the Plark Traili are natural warriors. Residents of the island of white sands, this ends up being the main color of the tribe. This is also the tribe to which Otes and Beud belong.
In addition to symbolism, they use their white clothes as camouflage, burying themselves in the white sand, and surprising enemies who arrive on their beaches, remaining hidden while they walk on the sand without any idea of what is below them.
As one of the plarks that fight because they are one of the outermost islands, they end up being a tribe that forms and greatly values their lasitis, warriors of the tribes. They are not known for violence or even spite, but rather for their simple mastery in continuing to win. They are warriors respected even by the plarks who value extreme brutality the most.
Plark Pygocen
Natives of the Attere Island, an island divided by several rivers that cut through it, the members of Plark Pygocen are also known as the “Red Mouths”. They adopt the characteristics of the most well-known animal on their island, the Piranha.
All gilasi of this tribe have sharp, serrated teeth, and their lips and the area around their mouths are completely red. This coloration is due to the blood of the invaders of the island, who are cannibalized by the tribe. After eating, they let the bones go to sea, as a warning to those who still intend to set foot on their lands.
All gilasi are natural swimmers, but they excel in the rivers of their island, advancing on enemies like true aquatic bullets. All it takes is one bite from a pygocen for part of an enemy’s limb to disappear, except in extreme cases when several of this tribe go after the same target, which loses so many vital parts and blood in such a short time that it dies instantly.
Despite their reputation for being brutal and violent, they have virtually no problems with any other plark, except when they are judged to be excessive and fearsome in combat. However, they have virtually zero tolerance for anyone outside the archipelago, even having problems with Otes in their early days living in the archipelago, which almost resulted in the death of the future king.
Plark Basilis
Native to Licus Island, the basilis are known as “light-footed.”
Trained since childhood, all gilasi of this plark have the unique ability to run on water. Due to the small size of their island, this plark has become accustomed to having a close relationship with plarks from other islands. Many say that every gilasi basilis is a member of at least one other plark, however, despite being the gilasi who leave their islands most often, every basili says that their heart and ultimate loyalty is to Licus Island.
They are well-known for their absurdly friendly, welcoming and cheerful manner. This comes from much of their philosophy and upbringing, because, since they spend a lot of time on other people’s islands, as if it were someone else’s home, it is only fair that they be polite and well-behaved. It is simply almost impossible to find a plark who truly hates the basilis.
Their island being small means that they receive news from other islands quickly. And they will always be among the first to literally run to help. Many foreigners believe that the tribes are mostly made up of aquatic races, but this is not true. Every tribe has a huge variety of races, and of course, since they live on an archipelago in the middle of the ocean, aquatic species end up having a great advantage in this society. Having an advantage in swimming is something highly valued among the Gilasi, but the Basilis have managed to be the only tribe whose members are able to reach any island in a short time.
As they are always welcomed on the other islands, the Basilis will always be willing to help and fight alongside anyone in need.
Plark Ose
Natives of the dark Moka Island, the Ose are the manipulators of death and the necromancers of the Gilasi.
The proximity to death of this tribe could not be avoided, given the place where they live. Moka Island is composed mainly of dark swamps and dark mangroves. On this island there are ponds or small pools filled with a black, mucous substance that the Ose call Nesse. When a corpse is submerged in this substance, it returns to life naturally. They return with parts of their body filled with completely dark and dead skin; if there was any opening or serious injury on the person’s body, it is also completely closed with this dead flesh.
The standard funeral on the Plark Ose is to deposit the corpses of the tribe members in the pools of Nesse. Any member of the tribe that the island deems important and necessary will be brought back as an undead with their memories and intelligence preserved, and they will no longer age. These undead that are part of the tribe are called Ecrose. They are the most respected and valued members, as they were brought back by the will of the island itself, as their usefulness was too great to be wasted on death. All great Ose leaders are Ecroses, as are their best warriors.
Every Ose gilasi has a natural aptitude for necromancy. The entire island is full of zombies, which are the invaders killed by the tribe and who will now be the tribe’s eternal watchmen, guardians, warriors and slaves.
This entire connection with death is due to what the archipelago really is. All the islands are, in fact, floating parts of the body of the enormous titan Gorpuren. In the case of Moka Island, the titan’s flesh there underwent the process of necrosis, becoming dead flesh, and as a result the entire island was influenced by this.
Of all the islands in the archipelago and all the gilasi plarks, Moka Island and the Ose Plark are the closest to death of all.
Unities
Character
Lal, The White Scale
Race: Merfolk albino
“From the moment I saw him, I knew. One day when he is big, strong and wise, he will become king. My apprentice’s victory will bring a new light to this world. He will bring a hope so great and bright that we will be able to see its glow from the other side of the world even in the darkest night. Salvation we will celebrate. Otes will reign. I can already see it, a new world rising. A new era is about to begin.”
— Lal, Ilid of Plark Traili, reinforcing his belief.
Ilid (leader) of the Plark Traili tribe, Lal is the ruler of the island of Vrartlak, the island of white sand. It was he and some of his soldiers who found Otes and Beud on the beach of his island. At that time, all the Gilasi tribes were at war with the Drani of Maliris, so they considered anyone outside the archipelago an enemy. Normally, the two of them would be slaughtered right there, before setting foot further into the islands, but Lal has always been a man of understanding and common sense. He did not kill them, but waited for them to wake up and explain who they were. Seeing that they were not violent invaders, but rather victims of the continent they were fleeing from, Lal adopted them both, becoming their protector and teacher.
A staunch believer in the legend of the Vortlar Kalari, Lal believes, without a doubt, that Otes is the savior who will bring light to the Great Rock again. He raised the boy as his own son, taught him, and trained him to be the great warrior he became. Every life that the king of Otesis had from the day his father died until the day he avenged him by slaying the dragon, he owes to the Ilid of Plark Traili.
In general, Lal is a beloved and respected leader by his tribe, with great morale within the entire archipelago. His island, Vrartlak, is one of the outermost, and thus one of the most invaded and attacked by foreigners. His struggle is constant. His losses are frequent. No one would blame him if Lal became bitter and cold towards anyone from outside, but he still managed to find the compassion to adopt and raise the pair as his children.
When Otes returned years after the Rebirth Wars began, Lal was the Ilid who fought the most at his side in the battles in the archipelago. He watched up close and proudly as his apprentice, his son, became the king he saw before him.
