The Veptrans are a people who live in the fiery Desan mountain range of volcanoes in the extreme southwest of the continent of Eredwyn.
They are named after the deity they worship, the lava salamander, the elemental Veptra. Within the volcanoes of the mountain range, the Veptrans defend their territory with the natural protection of their fiery home.
Due to its size, the dragon Gralgor was unable to enter the caverns of the volcanoes that are the entrances to the hot underground cities of the Veptrans. Furthermore, flooding the tunnels with the fire of its breath was useless since the dragon’s flames did not even reach the cities and did not even heat them to make the Veptran’s stay inside unbearable, as the natural heat of their cities was greater than any breath that a dragon on the surface would be able to generate.
Not being one of the only people capable of resisting the dragon, the Veptrans emerged from their countless fiery tunnels to attack Gralgor whenever he attempted to attack them in any way, being the only people who truly defied the Beast every time. Due to their inability to destroy the Veptra, Gralgor directed one of his subordinates, the newly formed Sindarklai, capable of resisting the heat and fighting underground, to wage war against the Veptrans’ previously insurmountable defenses.
The most authoritative leaders in the fiery Veptran society are the Salamanders, tall, scaly creatures of warm colors with a tail instead of legs, and naturally resistant to high temperatures. Even so, the Veptrans are composed of several races that are present throughout the world. For those races that are not heat-resistant, Veptkar is offered, a thick, slimy, hot liquor known as “Veptra’s Drool”. Once this liquor is ingested, if the person can withstand the pain, they receive an enormous resistance to heat, being able to live in Veptran society without difficulty.
After Gralgor’s death during the Rebirth Wars, the Veptrans united with the Drakynium of Otes against their hated enemy and neighbor Sindarklai. Despite the alliance, the Veptrans have always made it clear that they owe nothing to Otes and that if he had any interest in their volcanic lands, they would also wage war against him. They welcome anyone who helps them against their enemies, but every help easily becomes an enemy to the Veptrans. Still, the Veptrans have no overt intentions of expansionism or conquest, simply being grateful for any aid they receive against their invaders before ordering the removal of anyone who has helped them from their lands.
